The Power Behind Every Beat

Know Your Heart

Your heart is a powerful muscle that beats non-stop, pumping oxygen-rich blood throughout your body. It delivers nutrients, removes waste, and keeps your circulation flowing—ensuring every organ gets what it needs to function.

Structure of the Heart

The heart is made up of four chambers:

  • Right atrium & right ventricle – Pump oxygen-poor blood to the lungs.
  • Left atrium & left ventricle – Pump oxygen-rich blood to the body.

These chambers are connected by valves, which prevent blood from flowing backward and ensure proper circulation.

How Blood Circulates in the Body

Each heartbeat follows a carefully controlled cycle:

  1. Oxygen-poor blood enters the right atrium from the body.
  2. It moves to the right ventricle, which pumps it to the lungs for oxygen.
  3. Oxygenated blood returns to the left atrium and flows into the left ventricle.
  4. The left ventricle pumps oxygen-rich blood to the entire body through the aorta.

This cycle repeats every second of your life, keeping you alive.

The Role of Coronary Arteries

The heart also has its own blood supply through the coronary arteries. These arteries ensure the heart muscle gets enough oxygen and nutrients to function properly.

  • If these arteries narrow or get blocked, it can lead to angina (chest pain) or a heart attack.
  • Keeping them healthy and clear is essential for a strong heart.

Why Understanding Your Heart Matters

Knowing how your heart works helps you take better care of it. By maintaining good circulation, nourishing your heart muscle, and keeping arteries clear, you can reduce the risk of heart disease and live a healthier life.
